Shinkula Pass Tour With Jispa and Darcha

Overview

Shinku La (also referred to as Shingo La) is a high-altitude mountain pass that serves as the critical "third gateway" to Ladakh. Standing at an elevation of 5,091 meters (16,703 feet), it connects the Lahaul Valley in Himachal Pradesh with the Zanskar Valley in Ladakh. Unlike the traditional Manali-Leh highway that crosses multiple high passes, the Shinku La route is becoming the preferred all-weather alternative for both strategic and tourism purposes.

Top Attractions

  • Solang Valley: Known as the hub for adventure sports, it offers paragliding, zorbing, and skiing.
  • Sissu: Sissu is the first major village you hit after exiting the Atal Tunnel on the Lahaul side. It is often described as a "scene change"—moving from the lush green pine forests of Manali to the stark, majestic, and often snow-blanketed landscape of the Chandra Valley.
  • Jispa: Jispa is often where the "journey" becomes an "expedition." Located about 20 km north of Keylong on the Manali-Leh Highway, this riverside village sits at an altitude of 10,500 feet.

Tour Itinerary

Manali to Atal Tunnel

The Atal Tunnel is a 9.02 km engineering marvel that has fundamentally changed travel in the Himalayas. It bypasses the treacherous Rohtang Pass, cutting the journey from Manali to the Lahaul Valley from 4 hours to just about 30 minutes.

Atal Tunnel To Sissu

Sissu (also known as Khwaling) has transformed from a quiet transit point into one of the most popular year-round destinations in Himachal Pradesh, thanks to the Atal Tunnel. Situated at an altitude of around 3,120 meters (10,235 feet) in the Lahaul Valley, it offers a stark, high-altitude desert landscape that contrasts beautifully with the lush greenery of Manali.

Sissu To Keylong

Keylong is the administrative capital of the Lahaul and Spiti district and serves as the heart of the Lahaul Valley. At an altitude of 3,080 meters (10,105 feet), it is a "green oasis" set against a backdrop of brown, arid mountains and hanging glaciers.

Keylong To Jispa

Jispa is widely considered the most beautiful village in the Lahaul Valley. Located at an altitude of 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) along the banks of the Bhaga River, it is the preferred overnight stop for travelers on the Manali-Leh Highway and those heading toward the Shinku La pass.

Jispa To Darcha

Darcha is the northernmost permanent settlement in Himachal Pradesh, located at an altitude of 3,360 meters (11,020 feet). While often seen as a mere checkpoint on the way to Leh, it is the true "frontier town" where the motorable road ends and the wild, high-altitude trekking trails begin.

Darcha To Shinkula Pass

Shinku La (or Shingo La) is a high-altitude mountain pass at 5,091 meters (16,703 feet) that serves as the "third gateway" to Ladakh. "The Red Pass" The name "Shinku" translates to "red" in the local dialect, referring to the distinct reddish hue of the rocks and soil found near the summit.

Shinkula Pass To Manali

After that return back from Shinkula Pass to Manali.

Tour ends here with happy memories.
